Growing older
“There are things you can’t control as you get older: your eyesight starts to fail, you need reading glasses. A little ache here and a little ache there. There’s no getting around it.”
“At my age, being fit is really simple: I need to be able to get out of bed in one go, not two. People who aren’t fit sit on the edge of their bed for a long time, and then they have to muster all their strength just to get up. At its core, being fit means being able to climb stairs, travel, or go for a run. When I compare myself to someone my age who leads a less healthy lifestyle, I come out on top.”
Reading glasses
“At some point, I needed reading glasses. ‘Bring it on,’ I said. When my hair started falling out, I immediately shaved my head. From that moment on, I was just Roué with reading glasses and a shaved head. That’s fine. Learning to accept getting older brings peace of mind and gives you the space to work on the things you can actually deal with: staying fit, thinking positively, changing your diet, and exercising. Even as you get older, you can still improve your lifestyle and health.”
